The 2016 Films of the Year

After squabbles, in-fighting and more shuffling than a Vegas casino I present the best films of 2016:

20. The Jungle Book

19. Captain America: Civil War

18. Passengers

17. Finding Dory

16. The Girl With All The Gifts

15. The Fundamentals Of Caring

14. Spotlight

13. Eye In The Sky

12. 10 Cloverfield Lane

11. Everybody Wants Some!!

10. Anomalisa

9. Cafe Society

8. Hunt For The Wilderpeople

7. Victoria

6. The Hateful Eight

5. Sing Street

4. Sausage Party

3. Hail, Caesar!

2. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

1. The Revenant

A nod to the films that I'm sure would have been in contention for the top 20 but I wasn't able to catch in time: Zootropolis, Green Room, Nocturnal Animals, Creed, Son Of Saul, The Nice Guys, Hell Or High Water, High Rise, Maggie's Plan, Louder Than Bombs and Knight Of Cups.

Also a mention for The Lobster; in a lot of American publication's upper echelons but technically a 2015 release here in the UK (astounding film though.)

No place for DC's big hitters this year. I enjoyed both Suicide Squad and Batman v. Superman (and the extended editions improve them exponentially) but there's no getting away from the sheer sense of disappointment that both leave you with.

Close but no cigar nods to Doctor Strange, Money Monster, Deadpool, Goosebumps, Arrival, The Purge: Election Year, David Brent: Life On The Road, Jason Bourne, Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, X-Men: Apocalypse, Grimsby, The Big Short and Room.
