Creed 2

Despite Sylvester Stallone's protestations the Rocky saga keeps on running with Creed 2 not necessarily bringing the curtain down on the franchise.

Ryan Coogler's first was such an unexpected joy, and of course a huge stepping stone to Black Panther, that a sequel was inevitable and whilst it, predictably, doesn't quite live up to its predecessor it does a good job of justifying its existence beyond being a money spinner.

Steven Caple Jr. steps into the Director's chair and continues the story by pitching Adonis Creed, now a major star and belt holder, against Viktor Drago, son of Ivan.

Whilst you'll know exactly where the story's heading the Rocky series has always done well in immersing you in the action and this succeeds in doing the same. Michael B. Jordan is on exemplary form, as always, and Stallone himself gives arguably one of his best dramatic performances ever; giving Rocky humility and grace.

The in-ring action is particularly good with the clever first person view brought over from the first film, you really feel every punch.

Whilst I'm sure some will find it an unnecessary sequel, Creed 2 comfortably nestles itself in the upper echelons of the franchise and brings suitable drama alongside the great fight scenes.

The franchise may be heading into the final rounds but Creed is still able to land a knockout blow.
