Juror #2

Age is just a number in cinema and Clint Eastwood (94!) has given us another thought-provoking and effortlessly well made drama with Juror #2.
A watertight script by Jonathan Abrams introduces us to Justin, a personable husband with a baby on the way, called up to jury service. Once there, he realises that he may be involved in the murder case he’s assigned to.
It’s a great premise and the plot propels nicely along without feeling the need to go into soapy or overly dramatic territory. As such, it’s tense, engrossing and will stimulate conversation.
It’s superbly acted by a very strong ensemble cast and is generally well-paced, well directed and solid.
It’s almost play-like in its from and is suitable stately and elegant. Sure it lacks a little visual pizzazz and will maybe get some criticism for being something like a TV movie but it’s never less than thoroughly engaging and likeable.
It’s lack of flourish ironically makes it stand out in the current landscape as well. It feels old fashioned in a positive way right now, something where you can truly debate its themes and meaning rather than any mistakes or plot holes.
Found guilty of containing quality all round.
