One of Them Days

It does rather feel like nostalgia for the nineties and noughties is a current ruling trend in the media and cinema is no exception.

Alongside Marching Powder in cinemas at the moment is the equally fun and funny One of Them Days, a classic feeling buddy comedy that, unlike the Danny Dyer film, feels brilliantly out of time.

Across one rather traumatic day, roommates Dreux and Alyssa try and recover stolen rent money, ace an important job interview, escape the attentions of a local gangster, sell some shoes, sell some artwork, navigate a cheating partner and a potential new love interest and assess their own love for each other in a raucous and unapologetically chaotic movie.

This really is a throwback, veering off on bizarre tangents as we careen through the hours of the day.

The ‘anything goes’ approach and relentless barrage of action and dialogue keeps the whole thing steaming along nicely and you really care about this central duo. That’s also helped no end by the easy rapport of Keke Palmer and SZA in the lead roles.

There might not be a true ‘stand out’ joke or moment but the entire film is a consistently entertaining ride that feels simultaneously classic and fresh.
