Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

The animated superhero takeover/resurgence continues with aplomb with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

With Screenplay and Production credits for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg there was early promise with this one and it absolutely delivers on that with a rip-roaringly fun film and a similar take on the ‘Spider-Verse’ animation style (with a really nice, night time, slightly more muted and dark tone to the colouring.)

The comic like scribbles really suit the franchise and giving the turtles a more authentic look, and teenage voice cast, banishes memories of the horrible live action films of a few years ago.

It doesn’t quite better Spider-Verse, it’s a little more child friendly, a little simpler in story and the climactic battle scenes are a little chaotic and hard to follow but it’s still an absolutely solid film and well worthy of your time.

It's very funny, knowing, intelligent and even has undertones of wider messaging in its 'second generation' depiction of the turtles. It also has what is likely to be the best soundtrack of the year with a smorgasbord of 90's hip hop.

Here’s hoping this animation style is here to stay and the rumoured continuation of this franchise continues apace.
