Bring your laugh and cry tissues to the cinema to start the year with the Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh led We Live In Time.
Levelling up the romantic comedy by throwing some serious drama into the mix, this is a thoroughly British movie set to rank in the upper echelons of British romantic film.
As the narrative hops throughout the timeline of their multifaceted relationship, we learn more about Garfield’s Tobius and Pugh’s Almut as they meet-cute (well, ish, as they first meet after she runs him over), fall in love and navigate some big life events including having a child and, most significantly to the plot, terminal illness.
This raises some serious themes and also leaves some of them unanswered. It presents the messiness of a real life, a real relationship and feels authentic and appropriately moving.
Sure, it’s a heavy way to see in the new year but with such charming characters and performances and such moving and heartfelt content it is a joyful movie that will moisten those tear ducts and warm your heart. Whilst also leaving you with a craving for Jaffa cakes.
