Eye In The Sky

Eye In The Sky may be one of the most important movies (in a cultural and political sense) ever made. It's one of those films that comes along that everyone should see so they can forge their own opinion and argue and debate the whole way home from the cinema.

See Eye In The Sky focuses on drone warfare and presents a fictionalised, but thoroughly realistic, situation told in real-time.

In short, as there's lots that go wrong to begin with and the tension rapidly builds, the situation is thus: you have some of America's 'most wanted' in one place about to launch an attack on civilians. You have a drone poised and ready to strike, but a young girl walks into the area that will be most affected by collateral damage. What do you do?

Of course, this kicks off a veritable, political, legal and ethical minefield with each character, or group of characters, forging and arguing their opinion in the limited time available before a decision must be made.

The tension is unbearable and the plot moves along thick and fast; each character has their part to play.

What's important, and thought-provoking, is the stomach-churning aspect of the decision-making here. Politicians and military alike play with people's lives whilst happily watching on a screen, in the safety of their own country, munching on biscuits and sipping coffee.

No one is spared from blame, no decision quite wrong or right, no one appears qualified to make decisions such as these, least of all the politicians.

An eye-opening, thought-provoking film. See it and debate.

4 stars ****
