The Drama

The Drama is definitely a talking point film and easily a case of ‘the less you know, the better’.

It’s pretty impressive it’s stayed relatively spoiler-free for now but that can’t be the case for long so see it when you can and get ready to debate.

Something a bit different, something original and something provocative, this brilliantly tows the line between light and shade.

This sort of dark, cringe comedy is seldom seen at this scale and that is hugely admirable.

Undoubtedly thought-provoking and bold but also presented equally as sort-of-romantic-comedy and sort-of-arthouse-drama with shocking asides, reality blurring sequences, a jumpy narrative and tonal variation.

Immensely acted by Zendaya and Robert Pattinon in the lead roles, with matching supporting turns from Alana Haim and Mamoudou Athie as the ‘maid-of honour/best man’ couple, the script is a belter, easily capable of being presented as a play.

However, Director Kristoffer Borgli lovingly uses those aforementioned asides and cutaways to really augment what’s happening onscreen as it brilliantly depicts feelings of tension, anxiety, stress, pressure and confusion in visual form.

Much more in line with the artier side of the romantic drama genre this is a real pleasant surprise, a debate starter, a film to discuss and bring attention back to the cinema in a way that’s not been seen for a little while.
