The Persian Version

Despite it’s being advertised as a culture-clash comedy, The Persian Version is, first and foremost, a truly moving and nuanced mother/daughter family drama that just happens to be lightened at opportune moments with some hilarious comedy.
It’s a striking and original film, happy to move quickly through fourth wall breaks, random dance sequences, stylised montages and entire swathes of generational flashbacks.
It doesn’t stop moving but always keeps things entertaining and watchable. When one time jump feels at risk of dragging on a little too much, the film hits you with its most gut-wrenching twist and moves you all over again.
The scattershot nature may be polarising to some, and as aforementioned it may be less 'comedy' than the trailer lets on, but this is a moving and heartfelt tale with an important story to tell.
